As the nights get lighter and the days get longer, spring is on the way and we all start to feel the urge to get out and blow away the cobwebs. So here are just a few of our favourite beaches in the South West to take a walk, explore and take in the spring sun rays.

With a sandy beach set against the sweeping backdrop of rolling hills, Bigbury beach is the perfect place to take a stroll and explore this spring. At low tide you can take a walk over to Burgh Island, but when the sea comes in, don’t panic, you can get back over to the mainland on the towering sea tractor!

When the spring sun is shining, one of our
favourite places to explore is the visually stunning Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, which form part of the Jurassic Coast. We suggest starting your day at Durdle Door, taking in the geological wonder of the rock archway before heading along the coastal path to Lulworth Cove. Perfect for all you geology enthusiasts, the rocks here are full of ancient fossils and remnants of pre historic Jurassic creatures. Why not try finding your own fossils on the beach before ending your day with a delicious meal at the Lulworth Cove Inn.

With its pretty row of beach huts and 2-mile stretch of pebbled beach, Budleigh Salterton is a real Devon gem. Watch the fisherman cast their lines into the sea, before heading into the quaint picturesque town where you will find lots of traditional pubs, cafes and shops. Or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous you can follow the coastal path up over the rolling hills all the way to Exmouth, where you will find long stretches of golden sand.

Golden sand, dog friendly and perfect for surfing (if you can brave the chilly waters) – Crantock beach ticks all the boxes for us! Close to Newquay, you are spoilt with an endless amount of beautiful beaches dotted along this coast line, though the vast amount of sand at low tide here will make sure you miss the crowds of some of the more well known beaches. Perfect for taking a long stroll at any time of the year!

Perranporth is a great beach to visit for the ultimate adventurer, with water-sports and horse riding available all year round. Or if you’re not quite ready to brave the chill of the water, you could take a 2-mile stroll along the beach if the tide is out, to Ligger Point. Make the return journey over the sand dunes and have a well-deserved drink in the beach bar, The Watering Hole. Where you can also find live music events there in the summer months.
